How this course differs from other meditation courses & is it right for me?

There are so many different meditation techniques from visualisations, to sound, to breath based, to transcendental or Japa. Over the last decade I've spent thousands of hours practicing many of them at different points on my journey. They were all helpful at the time & can be beneficial depending on what's relevant for the individual at the time.

But in my experience there are also limitations to these practices & the benefits are quite often temporary & don't result in true freedom. Why?

1 - Because the motivation for doing them is driven by the personal will & desire to change our present moment experience, from one we don't like, to one that we would prefer. Meaning they never actually resolve things at their route but rather give temporary relief by avoiding what wants to be felt & seen & the reasons why we're not already present which is our natural state of being. It also requires huge amounts of discipline, will & energy to 'hold-off' the unconscious material that's rising up to be seen, which can exhaust us long term.

2 - All the while we are desiring a different experience to the one we're having, we are in the grip of the minds craving & aversion to what is. Which never actually allows us to liberate what is here.

3 - As awareness is more deeply established it becomes really clear that it's an impersonal field that has no craving & aversions of its own. These are another layer of thoughts, about the thoughts, feelings etc we are experiencing that arise from another imagined separated self.

4 - The true art of meditation is having no preference for what arises in the moment. In the permission of all experiences, the unconscious thoughts, feelings, habits, beliefs, strategies, wirings that are limiting us can float into awareness the only place they can be liberated & transformed. Which happens all by itself.

5 - Another way you could say it, is the shift from 'you' doing meditation, to being meditated. Which opens the possibility for the imagined gap between the observer & the observed to melt into the direct experience of is. (Oneness).

6 - Whilst this type of meditation isn't always easy & can be scary, confronting, uncomfortable at times. In my experience it's the only type of meditation that leads to true inner-freedom.

The Cave You Fear to Enter Holds the Treasure You Seek - Joseph Campbell

7 - This isn't meant to demonise the former practices I mentioned they're a great & often an essential step for many (they really were for me). Even as one transitions into the state of meditation both approaches may be helpful for some time.

This course is therefore geared towards those who have already been meditating for some time and want to go deeper but is also open to anyone with a sincere interest and desire to attend.

The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see. – Alexandra K. Trenfor
